WHAT TO EXPECT

  • All pelvic ultrasounds will start with a transabdominal scan. You will be asked to lay on the couch, expose your abdomen, and following this, a hypoallergenic gel will be applied to the lower pelvic area. Following this, a transvaginal scan is often recommended, which consists of going to the bathroom to empty your bladder. Once back on the couch, a thin probe is placed inside your vagina. The transvaginal scan should be painless; however can be stopped at any time if you become uncomfortable. This type of scan can be performed while you are menstruating if you are comfortable to do so. You will then be given privacy to redress.

HOW TO PREPARE FOR YOUR SCAN

  • It is helpful to wear loose-fitting clothing with easy access to the area.
  • For the best scan visualisation please finish drinking 1.5 pints of clear fluids 1 hour prior to your appointment time without emptying your bladder.

How quickly will I receive my scan report?

At the time of your scan the sonographer will discuss any findings and recommendations with you, followed by a detailed medical report sent directly to you within 24 -72 hours sent directly to you.

Will I be seen by a qualified sonographer?

Yes all of our sonographers are fully qualified professionals.

Do I need a medical referral to go ahead with a scan?

No, we accept self-referral patients. However, if you have a private medical referral for a scan we can accept this.
